The Heavy Artillery Battlepod is a variant of the standard Zentraedi infantry mecha that is frequently encountered during the First Robotech War. Known as the Serauhaug-Regult within the Zentraedi ranks, its key distinguishing feature is its ability to launch heavy long-range warheads at very large targets.

This mecha is often aided by spotters for target acquisition across great distances, though it can also engage the enemy directly. This variant also shares many parts with other Battlepods, allowing for easier servicing as well as the option of field upgrades of standard Tactical Battlepods to this configuration when necessary. The underlying battle-tested design is equipped with multiple thrusters to navigate challenging surface terrain or maneuver in space combat, but a great deal of speed has been sacrificed for its added firepower. Along with its destructive arsenal of four long-range warheads, its main body is armed with two main cannons and an array of smaller armament to deal with other targets such as Earth Destroids and lighter adversaries. The mecha’s giant articulated legs allow it to advance or jump past most obstacles and it can even function underwater.

Like the standard Tactical Battlepod, its main disadvantage is its vulnerability as armor protection has been sacrificed for mobility. The shape of its body does not lend itself to deflecting incoming fire and its power system has a tendency to explode when pierced by explosive rounds. It is typically deployed with a large strike force where it can be supported by more expendable Battlepods. However, these shortcomings are consistent with the Zentraedi strategy of victory by overwhelming force with little regard to the survival of the individual.

Whew! Ok, so that’s what it says at the back of the box. Now on to the review. ^^;

But before that, if you’ve been reading my posts, you may have noticed that my default image size now is larger than before. Now, I use 600px as my default size for images since I’ve noticed that a lot of blogs now have larger default image sizes and most people have faster internet connections. I don’t think anyone’s still on dial-up modems, right? XD

Anyway, this figure isn’t the Revoltech version of the Zentraedi Battlepod but a 1/100 scale vinyl edition figure made by Toynami.

I was actually contemplating between getting the Revoltech version or this one but got this version instead since it’s a lot bigger compared to the Revoltech version. This figure is about the size of a 1/6 scale human figure and is nearly twice the size of the Revoltech. Bigger is better, it seems.

The only advantage that the Revoltech has are its poseability ‘cos it has more points of articulation. With the Toynami version, you can only move the legs and the mount for the warheads, which is fine, since this mecha doesn’t have arms anyway.

I remember that the first time I saw the Zentraedi Battlepod was from the first episode of Robotech that I saw while I was renting some betamax tapes from a local video rental shop. Yes, I know, “betamax” is pretty old school, but hey, that’s the technology back then. ^^;

And when I say “back then“, you do remember that Robotech or Macross is an anime series which originally aired during the 80’s, right?

Did you notice that the design for the Zentraedi Battlepod is somewhat similar to the AT-ST from Return of the Jedi?

And one more for the lulz. XD

The composite for this one ain’t perfect, but it was something interesting to do in a lazy Saturday afternoon.

Inception director cites Paprika anime as influence

Well, this didn’t surprise me.

I always knew that somehow Paprika, in one way or another, influenced some of the ideas behind Inception. For those who have already seen Paprika, I think you already know what I’m talking about. But for those who haven’t seen this groundbreaking anime yet, you owe it to yourself to watch this, especially if you liked Inception.

I have to warn you though, Paprika is more mindtrippin’ compared to Inception. To call Paprika a sensory overload would be an understatement. ^^;

The French film site Excessif reports that Nolan has acknowledged the influence of Satoshi Kon’s anime adaptation of Yasutaka Tsutsui’s Paprika novel, although does not quote him directly:

“Christopher Nolan cites [Paprika] as one of the principal influences and was inspired by its main character to flesh out his character played by Ellen Page, a ’spirit architect’ named Ariadne.”

J-Pop Anime Singing Contest 2010 Event Coverage Part 1

Once again, I was late in coming to the J-Pop Anime Singing Contest. ^^;

But unlike last year, where I came near the end of the event, I came here much earlier than that and I was able to see the 1st group, Saigo no Tsuchi, perform.

BTW, I have to apologize for the 1st few pics I took. It was a bit underexposed ‘cos I haven’t set up my camera properly yet. Baka! >.<

While I was taking pics during the event, a Japanese guy (probably with the Embassy) came up to me and asked if I was “Press“. For a moment, I didn’t know what to say but I realized that having a blog is already part of being the New Media “Press“, so I said “yes” and told him I was with PhilAnime.com. LOLZ!

He then gave me a Press Kit containing some write-ups about the event and a couple of magazine-type newsletters. One of the newsletters is particularly cool ‘cos it talks purely about Manga. I’ll try to do some scans of this and post it in another article. ^^

He also asked me if I had a calling card. Good thing I still have some with me in my wallet and gave him one. Thing is… you see this all the time in J-Dramas, Movies, Anime, etc. where some Japanese businessman gives somebody their card and its always in a particular way, like holding the card with 2 hands and giving a short bow while handing it to the recipient. How come I didn’t do it this way is beyond me. I’m still kicking myself over it! >_<

Anyway, back to the program. ^^;
