Once again, I was late in coming to the J-Pop Anime Singing Contest. ^^;

But unlike last year, where I came near the end of the event, I came here much earlier than that and I was able to see the 1st group, Saigo no Tsuchi, perform.

BTW, I have to apologize for the 1st few pics I took. It was a bit underexposed ‘cos I haven’t set up my camera properly yet. Baka! >.<

While I was taking pics during the event, a Japanese guy (probably with the Embassy) came up to me and asked if I was “Press“. For a moment, I didn’t know what to say but I realized that having a blog is already part of being the New Media “Press“, so I said “yes” and told him I was with PhilAnime.com. LOLZ!

He then gave me a Press Kit containing some write-ups about the event and a couple of magazine-type newsletters. One of the newsletters is particularly cool ‘cos it talks purely about Manga. I’ll try to do some scans of this and post it in another article. ^^

He also asked me if I had a calling card. Good thing I still have some with me in my wallet and gave him one. Thing is… you see this all the time in J-Dramas, Movies, Anime, etc. where some Japanese businessman gives somebody their card and its always in a particular way, like holding the card with 2 hands and giving a short bow while handing it to the recipient. How come I didn’t do it this way is beyond me. I’m still kicking myself over it! >_<

Anyway, back to the program. ^^;

Legendary Japanese punk band Shonen Knife will be performing a concert at SM MoA this coming Saturday, Feb. 27. Woohooo! ^_^

Fresh from their US tour, seasoned punk-pop-rock musicians, Japanese legendary all-female band Shonen Knife, rocks out with Pedicab, the Philippines’ all-male dunk (dance and punk) group in a one-night only performance, free to the public.

Shonen Knife is as strong as when it first originated in Osaka — with a career spanning almost three decades, bringing them numerous awards and performances in the US, Canada, UK, Europe, Singapore, Hongkong – and now in Manila.

UPDATE! Via Magnetic-Rose:

Shounen Knife and Pedicab will no longer be performing at Centerstage at the SM Mall of Asia on 27th February 2010.

Instead, they will be at San Miguel By The Bay behind the SM Mall of Asia Complex. The performance will start at 7:30 PM.

Not too much cosplayers around since this con is mostly about comics artworks.

This is a great convention for budding artists as you will be able to see first-hand how some pros create their artwork.

The 4 day PICCA Festival culminated at Komikon with an exhibit, panel discussions, awarding ceremonies and announcement of winners for the student competitions.

Even though most of the booths were selling different kinds of comics, there were still some booths selling some toys and figures such as this Asuka figure. Cool!

Kinda noticed that there were lots of drawings of Manny Pacquiao. Seems like he’s a favorite subject for many artists.

Whilce Portacio’s art is really awesome. I’m lucky to have met him sometime during the 90’s when the company I worked for back then did his website to promote Whilce’s Stone comics.

I was pretty tired walking around and taking pics so I sat near the stage after the awarding ceremonies was done. It was a good thing Giniling Festival took the stage after that and rocked out. ^^
