KPOP and Culture Fest

ASUS, the world’s best selling motherboard brand, the recommended gaming hardware for the 2010 World Game Master Tournament, has prepared newer games, more prizes and an exciting twist to the tournament.

This year, WGT 2010 Cosplay will be held on July 17, 2010 at SM City Manila and is open to all Cosplay genres including Anime, Video Games, Movies, etc. Original costumes, however, will not be accepted.

Cosplay.ph will be managing the Cosplay segment up to and including online registration which will be up and running soon. There is no limit to the number of registrants although a cut-off time will be announced as soon as the schedule of the event is provided.

Cash prizes include:

1st Place: Php 5,000
2nd Place: Php 3,000
3rd Place: Php 2,000

2010 J-Pop Anime Singing Contest

Now in its second year, the J-Pop Anime Singing Contest will once again showcase the raw musical talent of ten groups from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao as they vie to emerge as this year’s J-Pop, J-Rock and anime singing idols at the Cyberzone Event Center of SM North Edsa on July 24. The audience will also be treated to other activities such as anime-making demonstration by Toei Animation Philippines, musical performance by the Embassy of Japan’s “No Plan” Band, special booth of HERO TV, meet and greet Doraemon and have their pictures taken with colorfully-garbed cosplayers. This event is co-organized by the Embassy of Japan and the Japan Foundation Manila with the cooperation of SM Supermalls, SM Cyberzone, Toei Animation Philippines, Nihongo Center Foundation, Center for Pop Music, Yoshinoya, Animation International Licensing, Heritage Hotel, Ajinomoto, Canon, Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba, Yakult and HERO TV and MAX FM 103.5 as media partners. Each contest will be themed according to the following dates:

June 26 – Anime Mayhem (Anime characters only)
July 10 – Comic Book Battle (Comic Book or Manga characters only)
July 24 – Video Game Face-off (Video Game Characters only)
August 7 – Movie Showdown (Motion Picture Characters only)
August 21 – Grand Finals (All Top 3 characters face off once again for the grand prize!)

Details and mechanics to follow, but basically you must Cosplay characters from the various genres as indicated above. If a character exists in more than one genre, he is eligible for both, but the incarnation and the reference photo must be from the genre listed (for instance, the yellow and black Wolverine costume would qualify only in the Comic Book Battle round despite the fact that there’s a Wolverine and X-men movie because that version of the costume never appeared in the motion pictures.)

Each round will have a Top 3 based on scores bestowed by the judges. These winners will win the following prizes:

First Place: P5,000 worth of Cash and Prizes
Second Place: P3,000 worth of Cash and Prizes
Third Place: P2,000 worth of Cash and Prizes

In addition, the Top 3 will advance to the Grand Finals where they will face the winners of each of the other rounds. So, in the end, it will be the best Anime, Comic Book, Video Game and Movie characters going toe to toe in an exciting finale.

Prizes for the grand finals is as follows:

First Place: P15,000 worth of Cash and Prizes
Second Place: P10,000 worth of Cash and Prizes
Third Place: P5,000 worth of Cash and Prizes

Item Auction: Anyone is allowed to register their items in the item auction. There is no charge at all to register their items, but we will do a Reverse Auction.

Here’s what will happen in the reverse auction: Each item will be taken with a List Price (Retail Value) and the bids will GO DOWN from there until there’s a bid. If there’s only one bid, that person wins, but if more than 1 person bids, it goes up from there.
