Gundam Astray Blue Frame

Like my Gundam Astray Red Frame that I posted a while back, I modified the paint scheme for this Gundam in keeping with the black theme of my other Gundam Astray. ^^

The Gundam Astray Blue Frame looks a lot better with black anyway. More menacing, IMHO.

Still used Tamiya Matte Black spray paint for the white parts as well as Light Gunmetal for the other parts. Since I was having a hard time choosing which kind of blue matched with the original blue parts of this kit, I chose Tamiya Racing Blue instead. Kind of like a racing car motif with matte black matched with glossy racing blue.

The reason why I wanted this particular gunpla was ‘cos of his big-ass sword! Blue Frame looked like a Gundam version of Cloud Strife. =p

The two knives that came with this kit originally have a black paint scheme but I thought that it would be better to paint them with chrome so that it’ll really look like a blade.

It was damn hard to pose him with the sword since it was bigger than the Gundam, so most of the time I just have him holding the sword in a downward position.

Like everything in Gundam, a big-ass sword with a knife is just overkill! LOLz

Two-handed style.

The sword can also transform into a Gatling Gun. Cool!

The sword/gatling gun can also transform into a sort-of rocket booster which you can place on his back.

Aside from the two knives, Gundam Astray Blue Frame also has retractable knives/ blades in both of his feet.

    Wow.. awesome scheme you have there. Have yet to use spray paint on my kits but afraid that it would ruin the parts and make it “inutil” in the end. OTL

    btw, mind exchanging blog links? Will add you to my links list later.

    tnx! don’t be afraid in using spray paint on your kits. there’s a bunch of tutorials on the web showing how to use spray paints properly. ^^

    already added your site to my links list.

    I have this same kit, but I’ve a problem. When I fold up my sword and try to attach it to the back, I can’t seem to put it on. It doesn’t fit or something. :/

    Mine is the clear version. Don’t know if it makes a difference…

    Help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    @Kai

    mine seems to fit ok. whether its the clear version or not, it should make no difference.

    woow your painting skills are amazing.. do you think you can post up a DIY on how to paint them? telling what paint you used and how you did it? jus so i kno that im doing the right things x]

  • Jay said,

    hmmm… it’ll be hard to put up a post w/ pics on how to paint ‘cos its been a long time since I painted a kit but I’ll give you some pointers to help you w/ your kit.

    1. Use Mr. Hobby, Tamiya or Gundam spray paints. These are small spray paints which I bought from a hobby store. They’re specifically used for plastic kits. Don’t use any primer since its a waste of time. But that’s up to you.

    2. Cut the parts from the runner and place them on an old styrofoam or newspaper and spray paint them outside. Gather the parts that have the same color scheme and paint under a shady area. No need to paint under the sun ‘cos the paint will dry up easily.

    3. Wait for 30-45 mins before you start assembling the painted parts.

    4. Once you’ve assembled your kit, use Gundam Markers to draw the panel lines.

    5. Use Top Coat spray paint to finish it up.

    Good luck! ^^

    is their any kind of metallic colors i can get?

  • Jay said,

    @kevin

    Yes, but that would depend on the store where you will buy the paints from if they have it in stock.

    pretty cool! Is that 1/100 scale?

  • kevin said,

    yes sir it is ;]

  • zero_four said,

    damn, this is good, i have the MG Freedom which i’m planning to customize by using spraypaint, is it advisable to sand it with a 1000 grit sandpaper, coat then apply a semi-gloss finish on it?

  • Jay said,

    @zero_four

    it depends on the look you’re going for. personally, I don’t use sandpaper on any of my kits as it will just make the surface rough.

    good luck on your kit! ^^
