“Afro Samurai: Resurrection” movie announced

posted by Jay on July 31st, 2008

YEESSSSS!!! The bad-ass mutherfuker Samuel L. Jackson is back as Afro, the silent yet deadly samurai from the anime Afro Samurai. But this time, instead of the 5 episode original anime, “Afro Samurai: Resurrection” will be done as a movie.

Afro Samurai

Via Anime News Network:

Afro Samurai: Resurrection is based on the original art and story telling of manga artist Takashi Okazaki, of a black samurai’s quest for revenge and justice for his murdered father. Samuel L. Jackson (The Spirit), who also serves as an executive producer, reprises his role as the uncompromising hero, Afro and his motor-mouthed sidekick Ninja Ninja. When his father’s body is stolen from its grave, Afro is forced to pick up his sword and wreak bloody vengeance against an army of deadly foes lead by a sadistic mastermind.

Lucy Liu will give voice to Sio, a beautiful, seductive and sadistic mastermind plotting to destroy Afro Samurai. Liu is the star of several Hollywood blockbuster action-adventure films including Charlie’s Angels and Kill Bill and has joined the cast of the ABC drama Dirty Sexy Money. Liu can currently be heard as Master Viper in the animated film Kung Fu Panda.

Additional casting includes Mark Hamill as Bin, Sio’s manservant and protector and Yuri Lowenthal as Kuma, the teddy bear-headed warrior from the original Afro Samurai series. Best known as the young hero Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy, Mark Hamill has had a successful career on Broadway, as a voice actor in both animation and video games and as a comic book creator. Yuri Lowenthal is the voice of Sauske in the hit children’s anime series and cultural phenomenon Naruto.

Cowboy Bebop live-action movie being developed by Fox

posted by Jay on July 25th, 2008

If it rains, it pours.

Cowboy Bebop

Yet another anime is being turned into a live-action movie. This time, its Cowboy Bebop that’s being given the Hollywood treatment.

From iF Magazine:

We caught up with producer-extraordinaire Erwin Stoff at the NBC TCAs where he was promoting his upcoming updated-David-and-Goliath-based show KINGS. When asked about other projects he is currently working on, Stoff, let slip some very juicy news about a very beloved anime franchise.

Im developing COWBOY BEBOP for Fox, but doing it as a live-action film, so Im working on that at the moment, Stoff tells iF. Im really excited to be working on it, and its in the really early stages. We just signed it the other day.

Thanks to dannychoo.com for the news! ^^

Blood: The Last Vampire (live-action movie)

posted by Jay on July 24th, 2008

There seems to be a growing trend in making some of the more popular anime into live-action movies. First, there was the news that Dreamworks is going to make a live-action Ghost in the Shell. Then, it was also announced that Tobey Maguire’s Production company have acquired the film rights for “Robotech” a.k.a. Macross.

Now, Blood: The Last Vampire has been turned into a live-action movie, too. Although, it doesn’t have the backing of Hollywood studios, it will be interesting how this movie turns up.

Here’s a scene from the movie which has a tentative release date of June 2009:

Newly acquired toys/ figures

posted by Jay on July 23rd, 2008

Went to Greenhills the other day and bought some new toys/ figures. ^^

Tachikoma (from Ghost in the Shell) by Wave. This is from Wave’s W.H.A.M. (Wave High Advanced Model) series.

Costs Php 2250 (US$ 50) and comes in a unique see-thru packaging. Been waiting forever to buy a Tachikoma so when I saw this in one of the shops in Greenhills, I immediately bought it! The next day, I went back and saw another shop in Greenhills selling another version of Tachikoma, but this time made by Good Smile. It has the same blue color but it comes in a traditional cardboard box-type packaging. Since I’m not gonna open this anytime soon, I guess I bought the right one since I can display this as is and it will still look good! LOL

Soundwave from Transformers Animated. Comes with a Laserbeak figure and costs Php 690 (US$ 15.33)

Oh! My Goddess Beachside Collection Trading figures by Sugar Mint Complex

Costs Php 1280 (US$ 28.44) and includes 5 figures (Belldandy, Urd, Skuld, Lind and Peorth). Yeah, the price is cheap ‘cos this one only has the 5 figures without the variants. I think other shops sell the whole set which has 10 figures (2 variants for each character).

I’ll try to do a proper photoshoot of this but since its rainy season, I’ll just hope and pray that the weather will be sunny so I can shoot outside. ^^
